
If you look at the Quake/Doom AI scripts, most of the enemies used very few events. The only ingenious part was coming up with the set of flexible triggers - like being in range of an object (eg. The engine defines a bunch of states that will trigger code to execute. In L4D1, the AI would always be better than a bad player - which is not the same in L4D2.Īlso, what's being called AI back in the day was mostly just a static event based system (similar to an Event Listener in Java). In L4D2, they often just stop moving forward with the group and end up killing the entire team if the team backtracks to save the worthless AI player.
